2M gets Gold Designation from LEED

DSC_1612WC Smith and development partner the Warrenton Group are pleased to announce that the US Green Building Council has awarded LEED Gold designation to 2M Street, a 314-unit apartment building in the NoMa neighborhood.
 
2M has a range of sustainable features, including a green roof, a rainwater harvesting system, a rooftop solar array, Energy Star appliances, energy efficient lighting, and green label-certified paint and finishes. Located two blocks from the NoMa-Gallaudet Metro Station and three blocks from Union Station, 2M tenants have easy access to transit.  Building residents can also take advantage of reserved bike parking and electric car charging stations.
 
LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System.  The US Green Building Council set up the LEED system to measure the environmental sustainability of buildings.  To receive certification, the building must go through a rigorous application and review process. 
 
In addition to eco-friendly features, 2M has top quality design, finishes and appliances, as well as a wide array of community spaces: a roof top pool with stunning DC views, outdoor grills, a large club room, a fitness center, an indoor basketball court, a theatre room, a junior club room, a business center, a spacious landscaped courtyard, a private dog park, and a bicycle room. It is a mixed-income building that is part of the city’s New Communities program: 30% of the units reserved for households with low and moderate incomes.
